Shade, Privacy and Security for
Outdoor Spaces

Shutters Australia supplies and installs outdoor
shutters and blinds, awnings, and safety doors and
screens across Sydney Metro, including the Lower
Blue Mountains. These external blinds and shutters
stop the sun before it reaches your glass, screen you
from neighbours, and keep your home secure.

One consultant can look at the patio, the windows
and the doors in a single visit, so you get one plan
and one quote for the whole outside of the house.

Our installers are our own employees. They fix every
product to suit the wall, the opening and how
exposed your home is to wind.

What Outdoor Shutters and Blinds Do for Your Home

Outdoor shutters and blinds stop the sun outside the glass, which keeps rooms cooler than an inside covering
alone, and they make outdoor areas usable for more of the year.

ICON

Cooler rooms

Shade on the outside of the window stops heat before it reaches the glass.

ICON

Less glare

Mesh fabrics and tilted louvres cut glare while keeping a view out.

ICON

Privacy

Screen a patio or balcony from neighbours and the street.

ICON

A usable patio

Block sun, wind and rain so you can sit outside through more of the day.

ICON

Security

Roller shutters and safety doors add a locked barrier to doors and windows.

ICON

Warranty

Most outdoor products need very little care. Aluminium only needs a regular rinse, outdoor fabrics are made to
handle sun and rain, and motorised blinds retract on their own when a wind sensor is fitted.

Aluminium, Outdoor Fabric or Security Mesh: Materials Compared

Choose the material by the job: aluminium for privacy and security, outdoor fabric for shade with a view, and
security mesh for doors and windows you want open.

MaterialUsed inSuitsGood to know
Powder coated aluminium Outdoor plantation shutters, roller shutters, door and screen frames Privacy screens, security, exposed and coastal sites Colours from Dulux, Interpon and Colorbond. [Confirm aluminium grade and coastal guidance]
Outdoor mesh and PVC fabrics Exterior blinds, Ziptrak, awnings Heat and glare with a view; clear PVC for wind and rain Fabrics from [Mermet, Ferrari and Phifer; confirm current brands]
Stainless steel or aluminium security mesh Safety doors and screens Security with airflow and insect screening Amplimesh in 316 stainless steel or 5052 aluminium

Powder coat is a baked-on paint finish that protects aluminium from weather. On homes near the coast, rinse
shutters and frames with fresh water regularly to remove salt. Clear PVC blinds keep wind and rain off an
alfresco but trap heat in summer, so many homes pair them with mesh blinds for warmer months.

Shutters, Blinds or Awnings: Which Suits Your Space

The right product depends on the space: shutters for permanent privacy, blinds for shade you can roll away,
and awnings for windows and patios that need cover overhead.

SpaceWhat suits
Alfresco and patio sides Sliding or bi-fold aluminium shutters; Ziptrak blinds
Balconies Sliding shutters or outdoor blinds, subject to strata approval
West-facing windows Window awnings, exterior blinds or fixed shutters
Entertaining areas without posts Folding arm awnings, up to 7m wide and 4m projection
Doors and windows needing security Safety doors, security screens or roller shutters

Many homes combine products: shutters along the side of an alfresco that faces a neighbour, a Ziptrak blind on
the open end, and a safety door on the back entry.

Colours, Fabrics, Motors and Sensors

Every outdoor product is built to your choices. Pick a powder coat colour to match your window frames, gutters or roof, then choose fabric colour and openness for blinds and awnings.

Aluminium plantation shutters can have lockable panels. Blinds and awnings can be manual or motorised, using Somfy and Nice motors with sun and wind sensors that retract an awning when the wind picks up.

Ziptrak blinds can be locked in the down position to hold against wind, and safety doors come with a choice of frame colours and locks. Your consultant brings samples so you can see each colour against your home before you decide

Outdoor Shutters and Blinds FAQs

How much do outdoor blinds cost?

The price depends on the size of the opening, the fabric, the track system and whether the blind is motorised. A free measure gives you a written quote.

Are outdoor shutters better than outdoor blinds?

Outdoor shutters are better for privacy, security and a permanent finish. Outdoor blinds are better if you want shade you can roll away and an open view when they are up.

How much are outdoor shutters?

Outdoor shutter prices depend on the size of the opening, the number of panels, whether they slide or stay fixed, and the colour. Your consultant prices them at the measure.

Do roller shutters keep heat out?

Yes. When closed, roller shutters stop the sun reaching the glass, which helps keep the room cooler on hot afternoons.

Are aluminium shutters good for coastal areas?

Yes, powder coated aluminium suits exposed and coastal sites. Rinse it with fresh water regularly to remove salt.

Do outdoor shutters need council or strata approval?

Sometimes. Balcony and street-facing work often needs strata or council approval, so check your by-laws and with council before you order. Your consultant can talk through what to ask.

How much do security doors cost?

Security door prices depend on the mesh, the size of the door, the frame and the lock. See our safety doors page, or book a measure for a written quote.

Can outdoor blinds be motorised?

Yes. Outdoor blinds and awnings can run from a remote or timer, with sensors that retract them in strong wind.

How do you clean outdoor shutters?

Hose or wipe outdoor shutters with mild detergent and water, then rinse. Clean them more often near the sea to remove salt.

Do you install outdoor shutters outside Sydney?

We install across Sydney Metro, including the Lower Blue Mountains. Outside that area we supply outdoor shutters made to your measurements, ready for you to fit.
